Innovation 2018 for Content Contribution, Distribution and Delivery via Satellite

The search for new solutions for delivering content via satellite has accelerated the development of new technologies by satellite operators in Brazil and around the world. “The impression we have is that we are asleep and, when we wake up the next morning the technology has completely changed”, was the comparison by J.R.Critóvam of Unisat, who chaired the panel on Innovation 2018  for Content Contribution, Distribution and Delivery via Satellite.

With the participation of Ricardo Calderon,  director of Eutelsat, Marcelo Amoedo,  sales director of Intelsat, Jurandir Pitsch, of SES,  Paulo Bertrand Vieira, Satellite Engineering Consultant at Embratel Star One, Romildo Lucas of Telesat and Sérgio Chaves, business director for South America of Hispamar Satellites, the panel looked at some of the innovations hitting the market, like the installation of low-orbit constellations of satellites that will reduce the cost of using them for transmissions.

Amoedo recalled that Intelsat had been invited by Globo Television Network to participate in an innovative initiative during the transmissions of the games at this year’s World Cup. “The goal was to make it possible to transmit live 8K video of the World Cup games in Russia to an 8K large screen in the Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow), in Rio de Janeiro”, he said. To achieve this, Intelsat transmitted from Russia to Japan. From there to New York and hence to Atlanta. “Globo received the signal in Rio de Janeiro, which was transferred by fiber to the museum. “It seemed as if the viewers were in the stadium”, said Amoedo enthusiastically.
