Brazilian broadcasting technology raises its profile in 2016

SET, a not-for-profit association whose main objective is to develop technical and scientific knowledge throughout the entire electronic means chain by operating in the areas of engineering and the like in the fields of television, telecommunications, radio, the internet and new media, closes 2016 with positive results for Brazil.

Having participated in events in the USA, India, Japan, Mexico, Holland, Peru and Argentina, the entity enhanced the appreciation of Brazilian broadcasting technology at international level, and strengthened SET Expo as the largest event in the broadcast and new media sectors in Latin America. “The results will appear over time. But the focus is on Latin America, because of our proximity”, says José Olímpio Franco, superintendent of SET, in his assessment.

In April, SET was among the highlights of the NAB Show, the world’s largest broadcast event, in Las Vegas (USA), with a stand and industry meetings. On that occasion, the 25th edition of SET Breakfast (“SET e Trinta)” was celebrated, a three-day seminar with 15 presentations whose highlights this year was the talk given by Robert Seidel, then-president of the SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers), a centenarian entity responsible for drafting the standards and regulations for the industry and training for the means of communication, entertainment and technology industries in The United States.

At IBC 2016, the global trade show for professionals involved in the creation, management and delivery of means of transmission and entertainment, held in Amsterdam, Holland, the SET team established partnerships and obtained information about global trends for new business in the broadcast industry.

Latin America – In Latin America, SET strengthened its cooperation alliance, which began in 2015 and was finalized in August during SET Expo, with a stand and coordination of a panel on the schedule of the Caper Show congress held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October. One month earlier, a partnership was concluded with Expotec, in Peru while participating at Expotec Peru 2016, in Lima, also with a stand and Brazilian speakers at the seminars.

Japanese-Brazilian technology – The ties with Japan, country of origin of the digital TV technology adopted and perfected by Brazil, currently acknowledged as the world’s most advanced, continue with an active technology interchange between the two countries, with SET being present at InterBEE, held in Tokyo, in November. As the superintendent points out, “Our participation in this event reflects our excellent relationship with the Japanese community, involving the MIC (the Ministry for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan), TV stations, standards production and R&D entities and manufacturers.”  New agreements –  SET also advanced in Asia and North America, flying the flag at Broadcasting India 2016, in Mumbai, India, with a stand; and at Broadcast Mexico 2016, in Guadalajara, Mexico, with a stand and a panel, in November and October, respectively.
