Cloud, playout and artificial intelligence discussed at SET’30

Second day of the 2022 edition of SET’s in-person event at NAB Show 2022 analyzed the new workflows in the industry

The morning began with the lecture “The efficiency and benefits of cloud-based services”, which analyzed the agility and reliability of operations carried out in the cloud. Emphasis was given to the advantages resulting from the use of this type of solution, and in helping customers in decision making.

Jurandir Pitsch, VP, Sales and Market Development – Video – Latin America at SES, said, “The SES Cloud playout is an efficient system in which we can create a new channel in less than an hour. We can create pop-up channels with software and training”. According to the executive, it was a long process that took more than two years, since “SES had to develop this service. It is not easy to put playout software in the cloud, because it was not made for the cloud, so there was a need to adapt it to native software with original design to run in the cloud. With it, we do playout for Fox, CNN, BBC, among other companies, which are regionalized channels”.

In her presentation, Larissa Görner, Senior Director PLM, AMPP at Grass Valley | Co-Chair SMPTE Advisory Board Media in the Cloud, spoke about the compression generated with the digitization of content in the media workflow, and how it is possible to optimize the “content acquisition, reception and distribution process”.

Larissa explained Grass Valley’s concept of the cloud. She detailed the Digital Connected Community and how the Grass Valley Media Universe can help to better leverage the platform’s functionality with marketplace, GV Connect Solutions, Cloud Native Applications and alliances.

Finally, Eliésio Silva Júnior, Harmonic inc, Sales Director Brazil, Video Solutions, theorized about the Cloud, and the journey of companies towards the cloud. He said that it is necessary to “unify the broadcast world with the OTT world, which generates more efficiency”. In doing so, we generate “the unification of the workflow of the linear and non-linear worlds

The executive also said that the movement is advancing in Tier 1 and 2. The growth of workflow to the cloud is a reality, advancing to “workflows integrated in the cloud, leaving silos aside”.

International Keynote

Peter White, President of IABM, highlighted the pandemic, and how it changed the industry landscape in terms of M&E Convergence, generating an increase and diversification of news. He cited M&E Transformation, with new ways of streaming, with investment in Cloud/SaaS. And M&E Resilience, with increasingly complex management, which has led to an increase in investment risk.

Produção e pós-produção

Josemar Cardoso da Cruz, CTO, Rede Paraíba de Comunicação, Daniel McDonald, Solutions Manager, Sony Latin America e Hailton Lopes, Business Manager, VoiceInteraction.

The second day of the event closed with a lecture on “Production and post-production”, which was moderated by Josemar Cardoso da Cruz, CTO, Rede Paraíba de Comunicação. The speakers were Daniel McDonald, Solutions Manager, Sony Latin America and Hailton Lopes, Business Manager, VoiceInteraction.

Lopes explained how the company uses artificial intelligence to produce content and how, for example, audio processing is generated, with machine learning algorithms and probabilistic models

He added that, with artificial intelligence, it is now possible to identify the voice and, with that, identify the subjects, the types of subjects, who the speakers were and a list of the most talked about topics.

Daniel McDonald, Solutions Manager, Sony Latin America talked about Sony’s Cloud Based Media Manangent solution, and how it can help orchestrate content using SDN/5G/Media Transport. With it, it is possible to advance to production distribution, and have the company’s vision of the future, always thinking about remote production with IP Live in conjunction with Cloud agnostic, virtualization and production distribution. This part of a WAN from a veneer and goes up to the cloud with a hybrid cloud, for live production with multi-cast production that includes a workflow for Live thinking with ON-prem and hybrid cloud.

He said the contribution can be made up to 5G to the GW, then down to the GCCG (Ground to cloud, cloud to ground). At this point, we highlight Sony’s integrations with various applications, and how micro-services in the cloud make a difference when it comes to improving workflow and analyzing investments and content monetization.
