This talk will concentrate on the use of IP content distribution over satellite. Whereas Geostationary satellites are excellent for broadcasting TV content over large geographical areas satellites have gained space in telecom and broadband transmissions. With the emergence of innovation in the satellite segment like HTS (High Throughput Satellites) or LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellites broadband and IP based transmissions became well embedded in satellite technology. On the transport layer however, TV and broadband used different protocols, namely MPEG-TS and IP.
TV 3.0 and DTH 2.0 introduces convergence of the transport layer to IP. During the presentation the speaker will focus on how IP content can be transported over satellite. Further the speaker will elaborate on how IP based transmission allow for additional user experience like push VOD and new business opportunities like OTT, content distribution to mobility applications (e.g. maritime, airplane,…)
During the session commercial use case scenarios will be presented demonstrating the possibilities of IP based satellite transmissions.
