Tomás Malheiros Borges

Tomás Malheiros Borges received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 2014, his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 2019, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2025, all from the Universidade de Brasília (UnB), Brasília, Brazil. His doctoral research focused on 3D immersive media processing and compression, rate-distortion optimization, and quality evaluation for augmented reality systems. From 2022 to 2023, he was a Ph.D. Intern with InterDigital, Rennes, France, where he contributed to standardization efforts on 3D mesh coding within the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). Since 2023, he has been a Research Associate with the Multimedia Communications Group at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI), Berlin, Germany. His research focuses on video compression, immersive media coding, and high-level syntax (HLS) for next-generation video coding standards, with active contributions to the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET) and to the MPEG.
