Kenichi Murayama

Kenichi Murayama had played a key role at NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) in the deployment of Japan’s terrestrial digital broadcasting transmission network. At NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories (STRL), he has been engaged in research on the advancement of terrestrial digital broadcasting technologies and participated in the standardization of ATSC 3.0, focusing on the physical layer.
In 2016, during the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, he collaborated with Globo to conduct an 8K terrestrial transmission trial using a prototype system incorporating technologies such as MIMO, 4096QAM, and LDPC coding—an early step toward the development of ISDB-T3. This demonstration showcased the potential of terrestrial broadcasting to many visitors during the Games.
Since 2023, he has served as the Head of Planning & Coordination Division at STRL, overseeing the management and strategic planning of the laboratory’s overall research efforts.
