Impacts of Generative Artificial Intelligence (IAG) in the Audiovisual Industry

The panel “Impacts of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in the Audiovisual Industry” will discuss how GAI is transforming content creation, generating realistic images and videos for journalistic productions, and influencing news production and presentation. The panel will cover fact-checking techniques and image authentication to ensure content reliability. The importance of transparency and ethics in GAI usage will be emphasized to maintain public credibility. Additionally, the panel will explore how AI can combat piracy, verify content authenticity, and monitor distribution to ensure credit and compensation for creators. Ethical challenges, including privacy, surveillance, and censorship, will be discussed, along with opportunities to enhance quality and efficiency in journalistic production.

Chair: Fernando Moreira, Coordinator of the SET Working Group on Artificial Intelligence

Fernando José Garcia Moreira is a consultant in audiovisual technology with extensive experience in developing projects for studios and audiovisual production centers. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Communication with research focused on communicational processes and interactivity of Digital TV. He also has a Master's degree in Social Communication with research in Information and Communication Technologies applied to Education, as well as a degree in Pedagogy. As a professor of production and audiovisual technology courses, he was the creator and director of TV Univap from 1997 to 2020, and served as the coordinator of the Radio and TV program at Univap from 2017 to 2020. He is also an author with contributions to 12 books and articles published in national and international journals. He has been a speaker at events in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Chile, the Dominican Republic, the United States, and Spain. He previously served as the President of the Brazilian Association of University Television (ABTU) and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Educational and Cultural Ibero-American Television (ATEI). He is a member of the Brazilian Society of Television Engineering (SET).

The New Face of Piracy – From Content Protection to Preserving Content Authenticity and the Role of AI

What are the types of audiovisual piracy plaguing the current digital landscape? From unauthorized content redistribution to more sophisticated forms of online piracy, we will explore the severity of these threats and how they negatively impact content creators, businesses, and consumers alike. It will highlight the tools available for combating piracy, particularly highlighting NAGRA’s latest advancements to revolutionize piracy countermeasures, empower systems to detect violation patterns, identify offenders, and proactively prevent attacks. What is more, as we approach the Olympics and other major live events, and in the age of AI and deep fakes, the ability to discern truth from fiction grows ever more vital. The session will also highlight the importance of preserving the authenticity of content and identify deep fakes through watermarking detection. The opportunities and challenges that arise from integrating artificial intelligence into piracy protection strategies and how organizations can adopt a holistic approach to strengthen their digital defense will also be addressed.

Otávio Martins, bachelor’s in computer science and Postgraduate in Cybersecurity, brings over 12 years of experience in Information Technology and Telecommunications. His focus lies on excellence and maximum performance in combating illegal distribution of audiovisual content, ensuring robust security in content distribution, and safeguarding intellectual property rights.

Presentation of the NID Report “IAG Impacts on the Broadcast Industry”

The lecture will present a preview of the NID – Data Intelligence Center report on the Impacts of IAG on the Broadcast and Audiovisual Industry. The document examines the potential effects of disseminating and improving Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) tools in the cinema and audiovisual industries, as well as in the production equipment market. The consequences for professionals, markets, work practices and the value chain in these sectors are assessed.

Serves as the coordinator of LABCOM - Media Convergence Laboratory and NID - Data Intelligence Nucleus within LABCOM. Also coordinates the Postgraduate Program in Professional Communication at UFMA and leads the AI Working Group at SET. Television news production and AI-generated images: questions about news credibility

Journalistic activity since its origins has had its production crossed by the technological possibilities present in each era. In times of data-driven narratives and algorithmic logic applied to news production, new challenges arise for television news, especially with generative AI, which allows the generation of synthetic moving images. With the resources offered by AI, the use of artificially generated images and automated editing processes become a possibility in journalistic production routines. However, it is necessary to think about the benefits and risks of these applications in news construction based on the issue of credibility in news production.
