How Big Data has become relevant within the audiovisual industry

The science of data is no longer just a tool used by research institutes, and has become a valuable asset for different companies, above all the so-called tech companies. In the audiovisual market, there is nothing different, and the use of this instrument is governing content production, distribution and new investments.

These and other issues will be debated on the panel “Big Data, Analytics and New Audiovisual Business”, with the moderation of Hugo Nascimento, CTO (Chief Technical Officer) of AD-Digital and a member of the SET Technology Committee. The panel runs from 11 am to 12:20 pm on August 28 within the 31st SET Technology, Media and Entertainment Conference.

“Big Data is obviously becoming a seriously relevant issue for the media and entertainment sector, since data involving video has become essential got understanding the user’s profile and, in turn, companies that create media content use it to define the next steps for their business or the content they have to produce. In other words, the information created for use on platforms or even the content that users consume defines what companies produce and distribute, as well as indicating where they should focus their investments”, the executive asserts.

As a guest, Nascimento will have as speaker Washington Cabral, Client Technology Advisor for Media & Entertainment at IBM. He will talk about “Big Data as an element of Industry 4.0 applied to the creative industry”, and will give IBM’s view of the market on how to use data to benefit the business’s needs.

Nascimento argues that the issue is relevant for all stakeholders. “Major tech companies like Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google are becoming companies take account of data. And this is becoming the most important asset  of this market. Anyone dedicating their time to this issue stands to gain a lot by participating in this panel”, he says.

The SET EXPO Conference expects to attract 2,000 attendees, who will watch over 50 panels and 200 talks over the four days of the event.

The program schedule includes topics on radio and audio; AV contribution and infrastructure; innovation and disruptive technologies; content production; audiovisual distribution and regulatory and standardization issues.
