The meeting point for the media and broadcasting business, SET EXPO is the benchmark for Latin America

For the event organizers, the market in Brazil has an annual turnover of around R$ 600 million. The national digital TV standard serves as the basis for the whole of Latin America, which has attracted increasing numbers of partners from neighboring countries

SET EXPO is the portrait of a market – media production and distribution and broadcasting – which throughout its history in Brazil has always borne the hallmark of creativity and innovation. “Brazilians are very familiar with audiovisual production and the trend to innovate in how resources and technology are used”, says Claudio Younis, vice president of SET, the organizers of the event. In his opinion, given the proliferation of software-based capture and production technologies, resources have become increasingly accessible, which has led to a pulverization of creation among a much wider universe of producers. “With the expansion of content distribution channels via the Internet, these producers can now choose from a variety of platforms on which to deliver their content”.

Although no formal statistics exist, it is calculated that in Brazil alone, the market for broadcasting and media equipment and services has an annual turnover of around R$ 600 million. “Within this universe, the responses by the exhibitors to the surveys carried out during SET EXPO, since the 2016 edition, point to a financial turnover of the order of US$ 40 million”, he estimates.

SET EXPO 2017 takes place from August 21 to 24 at the Red Pavilion of the Expo Center Norte, and is the largest audiovisual content production and distribution business and technology meeting point in Latin America, and one of the world’s largest. This edition expects to host 15,000 attendees from a variety of countries, who will be introduced to the latest ideas of 160 exhibitor companies with their 400-plus domestic and international brands. “Our Latin American neighbors are major consumers of what Brazil produces, and they are also important customers of our equipment manufacturing industry. Primarily in the field of transmission, since most of the countries on the continent have adopted the Japanese-Brazilian Digital TV standard”, Younis explains. “A lot of deals are closed at the event, while others are consolidated. Every year, the exhibitors say that this is the key meeting point with customers”.

New contacts and the chance to personally mingle with professionals from across the entire industry chain is another attraction of the event, since SET, as an entity, brings together professionals from all segments of this market, such as the creation, production and distribution of media. “For major television broadcasters, radio networks, subscriber TV, telecommunication companies, independent producers, institutional video production teams, filmmakers and bloggers, among others, SET EXPO is the mecca for all players in this ecosystem for discussing challenges, best practices and trends within the industry”.

On the fringe of the Trade Show, SET EXPO will also hold the 29th Technology Conference that will bring together around 1,500 attendees and 200 speakers to discuss the leading technological and business trends for the entire broadcast and audiovisual chain.
